March 3 2007: Free MultiOS @ Google Groups launched.

I am delighted to announce the Free MultiOS group at Google groups: http://groups.google.nl/group/freemultios/. Which is for me the easiest way to get (and hopefully stay) in touch with the Free MultiOS community (if something like that exists). It's a open non moderated group. The only rule in the group is the lack there of :) So if you have anything concerning Free MultiOS, feel free to post a message!

February 21 2007: New releases by D.E Farmer.

Today I was very excited by the fact Dave released two brand new songs on his Soundclick page. Dave wrote me a couple of weeks ago, he planed to work in his studio soon, but I never expected soon was that soon. ;) Edit march 4 2007: two more songs have been released: Meditations in Blue (smooth Jazz) and the over 9 minutes long Lazarus Arise. Anyway listen for yourself... Enjoy!

January 30 2007: Free MultiOS 2007.1 out now!

I am very proud to announce the release of Free MultiOS 2007.1. Which is a primary update release. You can download the 700 MB ISO9660 CD-ROM image from the file section (Bestanden in Dutch) of the project page. In the documentation section (Documentatie in Dutch) you can read a updated version of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), a change log and a full package list to check out whether  it's worth downloading the image for you. ... Have fun, hackin' your box!

September 5 2006: Lost songs found.

Most of my old school music fans, probably remember my CyberBeat CD-ROM, of which it seems, I had a incomplete versions all those years my self. For years I have been searching for two of my own favorite pieces called "Spring Forest" and "Real Love", made in 1997. Well fortunately my brother Mike still had a full version of CyberBeat, meaning those two songs are available again. So currently I am editing them a little bit and I will publish them soon on the soundclick page. Thanks a lot Mike!

Spetmber 3 2006: Mile stone releases.

Blair Campbell wrote on the FreeDOS Homepage: Finally folks. It's finally here. FreeDOS 1.0 available in CD-ROM format can be downloaded at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/1.0/fdbasecd.iso . Shortly, the larger and more featureful ISOs will also be uploaded. If you are having trouble booting from the CD-ROM, it is recommended to use Smart Boot Manager (btmgr.sf.net), or download the FreeDOS boot floppy image at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/1.0/fdboot.img, which will start the installation process and then use the CD-ROM for the rest. A full floppy distro will be released at a later time. Sorry for the delay, by the way :-) Earlier this week, ReactOS has released their 0.30, meaning two milestones in one week, that will be included in Phoenix. So this week I will be testing both of them....

I am proud to announce the release of the Winter Wonderland album. You can download the songs (with the Winter Wonderland image) from the Music page and eventually burn them on a audio CD. You can download a ZIP file containing the sleeve in Portable Network Graphics and a tracklist in TXT format here. July 22 2006: Free MultiOS "Phoenix".

It looks as if Free MultiOS development is discontinued, but nothing is further from the truth. The current version is codenamed "Phoenix" and I don't have the slightest idea when it will be released and what its final version number will be. First of all the Amstrad CPC series (a German Apple ][ series clone) is supported, SymbOS, for CPC and MSX and finally Haiku, the Open Source BeOS clone. If Apple Computer gives me permission to redistribute MacOS 7.5.3, it will be included as a hard disk file in Phoenix, since it's pretty complicated to install MacOS 7.5.3 from Free MultiOS 2006.2.

July 14 2006: OpenGEM 6 Released.

Today Shane Martin Coughlan has released version 6 of OpenGEM. And OpenGEM is a full featured desktop environment for (Free)DOS. New in this release are HP Deskjet printer support and support for international code pages and updating has been simplified. Simply install it on top of OpenGEM 5, since it lacks the additional applications that came up with the 5 release. The OpenGEM website has moved to http://www.opendawn.com. Simply click on the Projects button and follow the OpenGEM link. Of course OpenGEM 6 will be included in the next release of Free MultiOS, which is codenamed "Phoenix". Due to its incredible speed, OpenGEM brings back fun to desktop computing again. Thanks a lot Shane!

June 25 2006: My contribution to the OSNews Alternative OS review contest.

Today I finished yet another version of the FreeDOS 9 / OpenGEM 5 review entry to the OSNews Alternative Operating System review contest. I contributed this review because I am convinced FreeDOS and OpenGEM make quite a sophisticated computing environment for older boxes. So I contributed it via email and thought, "you'll never here a word about it anymore". Fortunately to my surprise Adam Scheinberg wrote me a replay, containing "this is great, could you add some screenshots to?" So I made some screenshots, added some more interesting stuff and recontributed it. If you are curious about my FreeDOS / OpenGEM review, you can download the updated ZIP file. The review is written in HTML. Edit July 6 2006: Shane Martin Coughlan corected my typos and lingual glitches and Eric Auer cotributed some interesting screenshots.

June 17 2006: Free MultiOS 2006.2 ISO9660 CD-ROM image released.

In contrast to the previous message, thanks to Maarten Koopmans (Uitwissel platform admin), I was able to release the full ISO9660 CD-ROM image of Free MultiOS 2006.2 today. If you want to download Free MultiOS 2006.2, please download the file: fMultiOS_2006_2_iso.zip from the project's homepage http://www.uitwisselplatfrom.nl/projects/freemultios and deny all the rest of the files, provided in the repository. June 14 2006: Free MultiOS 2006.2 Released.

I am proud to announce the release of Free MultiOS 2006.2. That is available for download at the project's homepage: http://freemultios.uitwisselplatform.nl. Due to the 200 MB upload file size limit on www.uitwisselplatform.nl i had to divide the ISO image in 8 separate chunks, that you will have to download. Please read the updated Frequently Asked Questions or the Dutch version for technical details.

June 2 2006: Petition against EU email taxes.

At this very moment the EU is considering a proposal, filed by right-wing congressman Lamasoure, taxing sms-text and email-communication as the 25-country bloc looks for new ways to fund itself. The idea is among several others being floated in committee as the parliament argues over a new budget. We believe that email, in it's current, untaxed, form has become such a mainstay in our current way of communication, that it has become an integral part of our society and the way we do business. If you disagree with this ridiculous proposal, pleas sign the petition.

May 28 2006: Free MultiOS goes official.

At last!... However Free MultiOS was rejected by ftp.funet.fi since it is not a project especially pointed at Finnish users, my hosting request at the Dutch Open Source exchange platform www.uitwisselplatform.nl was fortunately accepted. This means the hosting problem is solved for once and for all. So you will be able to download the ISO9660 image. Beside the ISO image, a FAQ (frequently asked questions) list will be available and a mailing list. All the details will follow. For now this means next week i will be in a code rush, meaning coding for 20 hours, 4 hours of sleep and then it's straight back to the computer. Yes sir... hands on the console and coding ;)

May 23 2006: Free MultiOS 2006.2. in the make.

Finally after quite some research and experimentation, today i have made some major decisions concerning the upcoming release. Thanks to a reviewer at ftp.funet.fi, who made me aware i have to take the licenses more serious, i decided to remove everything which is not released under a open license. Beside that the GUI is worked around again. Here are the major changes: Removed: BeaFanatIX, BeOS 5 Personal edition and MacOS 7.5.3 (a link to MacOS download is included); Added : OpenSUSE 10.1 network install and Puppy Linux 2.0 Seamonkey Live CD; Updated : FreeDOS 9 "Methusalem" Beta 2 to the full distribution; MINIX 3.1.2 to final release; GUI : separate link page to end user packages (apps, games etc.) for every OS. This link page wil pop up when you click on the title button on top of every sub-page. I hope i will be able to release Free MultiOS 2006.2 on my 46'th birthday (June 4 2006).

May 3 2006: Basilisk II JIT 1.0 Snapshot release.

On May 1 2006 Christian Bauer has released a snapshot of the Basilisk II JIT 1.0 Apple Classic Macintosh and Macintosh II series emulator. It has a few great advantages above the version that was published on Free MultiOS 2006.1. You can read all about it, right here. Beside that i have discovered the first glitch on Free MultiOS 2006.1. MacOS System 7.5.3 is provided but a boot floppy image to start the installation is absent. Before you are able to install MacOS System 7.5.3 you will have to download this ZIP file. Unzip it to the Basilisk II root directory, fire up the Basilisk II GUI and use it as a boot disk.

April 12 2006: Free MultiOS 2006.1.

Today i started working on the next release of MultiOS, which is renamed to Free MultiOS. I wan't release it in multiple languages any longer. From now on its English Only.  Free MultiOS 2006.1 wan't include any shocking changes compared to Marti's MultiOS Alef. However some very interesting updates are the most recent release of MINIX 3, including X and OpenGEM 5.

March 29 2006: MINIX 3.1.2-B2 Released.

Andy Tanenbaum has released 3.1.2-B2 of MINIX, a preview version of 3.1.2. The most important new feature of this release is the inclusion of the X windowing system. MINIX is one of the most important counterparts of Marti's MultiOS.
